ARAPAHOE BASIN, Colo. – The A-Basin Kids Center, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area’s newest addition, is now open! The three-story, $2.3 million building is a space for kids in our Snowsports lessons and programs to call their own. Designed with both kids and parents in mind, the Kids Center features a designated space for kids lesson check-in and rentals, kid-friendly furniture and indoor play items, and an earlier drop-off time for morning lesson takers. The lower level of the Kids Center also houses A-Basin’s First Aid Room and Ski Patrol offices, with private waiting and treatment areas and modern medical equipment. The ski area, known for its welcoming vibe and ease of navigation, recognized the need for a new space to provide an improved and special experience for all of its guests.

“With more families choosing to ski the Basin, we wanted kids to have the same positive and fun experiences that their parents have here,” said Alan Henceroth, A-Basin Chief Operating Officer. “This new space not only allows us to improve our kids lesson offerings, but lets kids feel like this is their mountain too.”

Hours of operation for the A-Basin Kids Center are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., seven days a week through the regular Snowsports season which ends April 26, 2015. Late-season hours and lesson availability will be determined later in the season.

Committed to sustainability

-       LED and low-wattage lighting system with occupancy and daylight sensors

-       Ventilation system designed to recover energy normally lost in typical ventilation systems

-       Solar energy: The solar panel atop the Kids Center offsets a majority of the building’s electrical usage and can produce approximately 15 megawatt hours of energy per year. This is the equivalent of the CO2 reduction of planting 260 trees or driving a car that gets 20 mpg about 17,000 miles.

Elevating the guest experience at Arapahoe Basin

-       Designated check-in space for all kids lessons and programs, as well as kids lesson dining space, alleviates crowding in the rental shop and A-Frame

-       Early drop-off for morning lessons starts at 8:00 a.m., allowing parents to maximize their time on the mountain

-       Rental gear for kids in lessons with new Rossignol skis and Burton snowboards, as well as helmets from Giro (helmets are included in every children’s rental package)

-       Retail space at check-in to pick up any gear or accessories that may have been forgotten at home

-       Brand new kitchen, dining, and restroom facilities featuring kid-sized furniture and fresh, kid-friendly food so that kids feel comfortable in these spaces

Making the mornings FUN

-       Kids play area features low balance beams, soft obstacle courses and balance boards that get kids moving and promote balance and motor skills that translate to what they learn on the hill

-       Television screens at kid-level show video of the fun things you can do at Arapahoe Basin, from meeting our avalanche dog Rio to skiing down big powder runs

-       Décor designed around “Ace’s Wild Adventure” (featuring Ace, our mountain goat mascot) helps kids determine their height and weight for their rentals, and features pictures of and facts about the wildlife found in and around A-Basin

Updated First Aid and Ski Patrol facilities

-       New waiting room and state-of-the-art care facilities to improve triage and patient privacy
