Join us for a 4-part series of uphill challenges two Tuesday mornings in December and January. Challenge yourself to all four or pick and choose which morning works the best for you and your workout schedule. Starting in the Base Area at 10,780’ and finishing near the Summit at 12,474’, with twists and turns along the way, the early morning Rise and Shine Rando Races are a fun and challenging way to start your day! Check in begins at 6:00 a.m., race begins at 7:00 a.m.

February 14 Course 

Long Course:

The skin will start in the Base Area and competitors will make their way up Wrangler, with a quick switchback into the woods on Chisholm Trail, and then back onto Wrangler to keep ascending up.  Here you will traverse through the trees and out along the toe of the East Wall.  Continue ascending up past the East Wall into the Cabin Glades and traverse up past the historic cabin ruins switching back to East Gully.  Continue in East Gully for a short distance before traversing back across Dragon and Half Moon Glades.  Here you will have your first transition to a short boot pack up Half Moon Glades. At the top of Half Moon you will start the descent down West Gully past the bottom of the Lenawee Chairlift to Chisholm Trail where you start ascending up again into Sundance and Lynx Lane.  Continue past the south side of the Black Mountain Lodge, up Dercum’s Gulch, to the bottom of the West Wall.  Here you will transition to a second boot pack up the West Wall to the Cornice Run. Back to skis and continue up the Cornice Run to an uphill finish inside the Snow Plume Refuge.

This course has approximately 2,150’ of elevation gain and is around 3 miles long.

 

Short Course:

The skin will start in the Base Area and competitors will make their way up Wrangler, with a quick switchback into the woods on Chisholm Trail, and then back onto Wrangler to keep ascending up.  Here you will traverse through the trees and out along the toe of the East Wall.  Split from the long course to the right around the bottom of the Lenawee Chair rejoining the long course across Chisholm trail to Sundance and Lynx Lane. Continue past the south side of the Black Mountain Lodge, up Dercum’s Gulch, to the bottom of the West Wall.  Here you will transition to a boot pack up the West Wall to the Cornice Run. Back to skis and continue up the Cornice Run to an uphill finish inside the Snow Plume Refuge.

Cut off Time will be at 7:30am for the longer course.

Joe Howdyshell, founder of Summit Endurance Academy, is hosting FREE clinics after each Rise and Shine Rando Race this winter. Joe has been a professional coach since 2006, and founded the Summit Endurance Academy in 2013 to facilitate athletic achievement in the Colorado High Country. Joe currently lives in Breckenridge, Colorado and enjoys crushing mountain races in jorts!

This Tuesday’s Free clinic is concentrating on kick turns, and will immediately follow the Rise and Shine Rando. Please bring a dry change of clothes and a heavy jacket.
